Where to buy legit game keys without paying full retail

Kinja'd!!!

For some reason, some codes for DLC that I bought on eBay years ago have been disabled by EA. They sent a BS explanation as to why they did what they did, and when I questioned some of the rather ambiguous terms used in their message that didn’t correlate to the contents of their terms of service I was told that I was in violation and that they now consider the matter closed.

Fuck that. There are two things at work here. One, I have a hard time paying full retail for DLC for a program that is approaching a decade old. Secondly, I want to know how to avoid making the same mistake in the future. EA certainly doesn’t want to help since they want me to shell out $20 per on these add-ons. Will the Steam add-on work with the version of the program registered with Origin? Where can I buy a legitimate version of the DLC that won’t put the rest of the software on Origin at risk.

There’s something to be said for having a physical disc and code, and not being forced into online only purchases. And being able to buy and sell unused software instead of making it a one-time purchase. If you must make it single use, especially for ancient software, lower the price instead of gouging your customers for every last penny.

Steam and Origin DLC are not compatible (there may be a few weird exceptions, I think EA moved some Steam stuff over to Origin when they launched the service) .

As for cheap places to buy keys that are also legitimate, normally you just have to look around and/or wait for sales. Normally someone will have something on sales. Shacknews publishes a deal rundown every Friday that is normally pretty comprehensive: https://www.shacknews.com/topic/weekend-pc-download-deals

Green Man Gaming seems to generally have the best “average” prices on things, though that is not universal, and sometimes you need to be logged in to see their best price.

There are other key resellers out there that offer better prices, but they seem to be the sort of shady thing that gets keys canceled after the fact (which is bullshit, stop people before they activate or not at all).

Also, since you are on Origin, if you are looking for Bioware DLC using the old Bioware points system, it at least used to be better to buy the DLC points downloads from Amazon then buying directly through EA/Bioware, though I haven’t checked recently.

There are two websites cdkeys.com and g2a.com. I would suggest using PayPal and not your actual credit card. Just pay attention to what version of the key you are buying.

I’d second the cdkeys.com site as more trustworthy than g2a.com, I recently had an email from g2a saying they were going to start to charge me for having an inactive account unless I logged in

It is stupid! But that’s what we’ve got. I think it’s still preferable to the early DLC where if you lost the installer file, you were sunk, but it would be nice to be able to pull between sources.

I think your first mistake was buying something from EA. I don’t care how good their games are,  I’m done giving them my money. The can eat a giant bag of shit.

Cheapshark.com has a database of best game prices from many legit deals sites (though it doesn't cover all of them)

Steam sucks, but origin is worse. Get far far far away from Origin if you can.
